Are you unhappy with the look of your smile? Overlapping or misaligned teeth can be embarrassing, and in many cases can cause problems biting and even speaking. For years the standard orthodontic treatment was metal braces, which could be painful and were quite conspicuous. Invisalign has changed that, allowing adults and teens alike to enjoy the benefit of traditional braces without many of the discomforts or cosmetic concerns. If you’ve always wanted a straighter smile, but have been avoiding orthodontia, now’s a great time to reconsider and see how Invisalign can help you!
How Does Invisalign Work?
Like braces, Invisalign can help fix a number of dental issues, such as overcrowding, spacing issues and over or under bites. Orthodontia can also help alleviate jaw pains resulting from misalignment. Unlike traditional braces, however, this process is done through a series of custom-fitted clear plastic trays that help to realign the teeth. This allows patients to improve the function and appearance of their smiles, without spending months or years in highly visible metal braces.
- The trays are made of BPA-free plastic, and should be worn 20 to 22 hours each day to maximize their effectiveness. This means you can enjoy the benefit of removing them while eating, a dream of many traditional braces wearers who are limited in what they can eat comfortably.
- On average, the treatment takes approximately one year, with two to three weeks allotted for each new alignment tray, but this timeframe is based on each patient’s particular case. During consultation we can determine if Invisalign is a good choice for you, and go over approximately how long it would take to complete your treatment.
- There may be some discomfort or difficulty speaking and chewing, initially, but most patients find they adjust to the aligner trays quickly, and are thankful for both the relative “invisibility” of the trays and the improved comfort versus traditional metal braces.
