Schedule A Back-To-School Checkup For Your Child

In just a few days, your children will be returning to school, which means there is still a lot to do to prepare, such as shopping for new clothes and supplies. However, we hope you don’t forget their smiles! We would love to see you and your family before school starts and schedules become a lot busier. With a back-to-school visit, we can help kids in Tucson, AZ, enjoy healthier smiles.

The Checkup

If you attend a visit now, we will use advanced technology to provide a thorough exam of your child’s smile. We will look for the presence, or possible warning signs, of serious oral health issues. Often, we can treat these issues quickly, possibly before the new school year starts. We want to watch for tooth decay, dental infection, gingivitis, and gum disease. We may also look for indicators of TMJ disorder and bruxism. For some issues, such as tooth decay, treatment can be rendered in a single visit and protect the smile.

Cleanings

We will also perform a dental cleaning, in which we carefully remove all plaque and tartar from the teeth. Removing plaque buildup helps safeguard teeth and gums against tooth decay and gum disease, while also offering a brighter smile and fresher breath. For children, we may also discuss preventive treatments, such as dental sealants to keep food from becoming stuck between the hard-to-reach back teeth, or fluoride varnish, which strengthens the outer layer of tooth enamel. We want to make sure your child starts their classes with the healthiest possible smile.

Keeping Smiles Healthy From Home

We’re also eager to educate parents and children about proper brushing and flossing. Routine homecare aids in the prevention of serious oral health issues, from cavities to periodontal disease. Children and adults alike need to brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes each session. Kids three and up should a fluoridated toothpaste. Flossing before bed is also crucial, as this removes the bits of food brushing alone cannot. In addition, try to offer healthier snack choices, such as more water, fewer sodas, and smile-friendly snacks, such as nuts, cheeses, fruits, veggies, and sugar-free gum. If you have any questions about maintaining good oral hygiene from home, or about our routine checkup and cleaning visits, then contact our team today. Let’s start the school year off right!
