Restoring Your Smile With A Custom Crown

Cosmetic & Family Dentistry in Tucson, AZ

A dental crown covers your tooth’s visible portion, enabling our team to repair a number of cosmetic and restorative concerns and protect teeth from serious complications. But when should you see your Tucson, AZ, dentist for treatment? In today’s blog, we’re looking at how we create and place a crown, and when a smile may benefit from one.

When Do You Need One?

Since a crown not only covers the tooth, but also has the capability to absorb serious bite forces and pressures, we can use them to address a variety of cosmetic and restorative concerns. For example, we can repair advanced decay and treat cavities, completing a root canal procedure. Our team can also lengthen worn down teeth and address cracks and chips. We can anchor a dental bridge in place and even restore single-tooth dental implants. Placement also corrects misshapen or stained teeth as well.

Creating a Natural-Looking Restoration

In the past, receiving a restoration meant between two and three visits, and as long as two weeks of wearing a temporary restoration. Now, we can use CAD/CAM technology to complete the entire process in-office in a single visit. First, we prep the tooth by removing a small amount of structure. We then take detailed impression of your teeth using digital technology. You don’t need to bite down on a mold filled with sticky material. Instead, we take a series digital images and combine them to create a 3D model. We upload the information into an onsite E4D milling machine, which crafts the crown from ceramic. The material is stain-resistant, translucent like tooth enamel, and can be shaded to match the color of surrounding teeth. We then place the crown with a powerful bonding agent, so you leave the office with a newly restored smile!

Repairing Your Tooth

Remember, damage causes more than just esthetic issues for your smile. Even minor chips and cracks could mean a greater risk of cavities and infection. If you experience a toothache or tooth sensitivity that doesn’t pass after a few hours, then let us know. This could be the result of advanced decay or infection, and require treatment to prevent losing your tooth altogether. Always let us know if you experience changes to your smile or discomfort, as we can often repair and restore your tooth in just one visit!
