Let’s Reshape Your Tooth In One Visit

For most teeth stains, we have two professional options to remove them either from our office or the comfort of your own home. But what if you have permanent teeth stains, or what if you have issues with the shape of your tooth? In today’s blog, your Tucson, AZ, dentist looks at how we can reshape a tooth in one visit with bonding and contouring.

Cosmetic Bonding

With cosmetic dental bonding, we use a unique metal-free material to address a multitude of esthetic concerns in one visit. The same material is often employed in our tooth-colored dental fillings. Composite resin is a special blend of glass and acrylic compounds that can actually be shaded to match the color of your surrounding tooth structure. Placement begins with the dentist removing any decay and then thoroughly cleaning the tooth. We may gently etch the surfaces as well. Next, we apply the material in several layers, sculpting the tooth as we cure the composite resin under a light. Finally, we polish the tooth for a more attractive appearance.

Along with masking permanent teeth stains, we can use bonding to repair minor chips and cracks, lengthen worn down teeth, close embarrassing gaps between the teeth, and help reshape misshapen or malformed teeth.

Dental Contouring

Contouring can be completed in the same visit, but involves a very a different approach to improving smile beauty. Instead of adding material to the tooth, we gently buff and sand the outer structure to remove rough patches, pits or grooves, or overly pointed portions. We can correct very minor chips, address misshapen teeth, and even reshape teeth that appear too large next to the others.

Other Cosmetic Options

For surface stains, we can offer an in-office procedure that removes them in two hours, or an at-home system that offers a smile brightened by multiple shades in a week. We can use advanced dental lasers to contour the gum line, correcting gummy smiles that could impact the appearance of your smile. Porcelain veneers involve placing a thin restoration over the front of the tooth to instantly change the shape and color, and with Invisalign® we have a series of clear and comfortable aligners to correct minor and advanced cases of misalignment.
