Prepare for Halloween with Healthy Treats

Are you excited about the trick-or-treaters who will soon be at your door, anxiously awaiting whatever treats you have stocked up on, with which to fill their plastic pumpkin pails? In fact, is your porch already festively decorated, to greet the many ghosts and goblins, princesses and pirates, you’ll soon be seeing? If so, before you head to the store to stock up on candy and other sweet treats, it is wise to consider the smile-friendly alternatives recommended by your family dentist. After all, Halloween treats don’t have to be sugar-laden candies that could lead to cavities. They also don’t have to be toothbrushes, in order to be preventive dentist-approved. They just need to be healthy options that will still elicit smiles from the costumed kids you’ll soon be greeting!

What Are Some Great Alternatives to Traditional Candy?

Nothing says Halloween treats have to be edible, at all. If you are looking for a healthier alternative to candy, why not consider small toys, games, puzzles, or even costume jewelry. Some perpetual kid favorites include glow-in-the-dark bracelets and necklaces, perfect for late nights of trick-or-treating, spider rings and ghost figurines.

Of course, if you do want to pass out something edible, why not consider small packages of crackers or pretzels? Just look for varieties with low added sugar.

No Need to Trick Kids Into Healthier Eating

If you will be hosting a Halloween party as well, don’t worry. There is no need to trick kids into eating healthier. Simply provide them with exciting options they’ll actually be happy to reach for instead of sugary sweets, can help protect their smiles and prevent the need for restorative treatment.

Chopped veggie sticks might not sound exciting at first, but you can actually use carrots, peppers, cherry tomatoes, celery and other finger foods to create colorful and delicious spreads. Complete the snack table with flavorful dips, and kids might actually be excited to partake.

Of course, fresh fruit is another healthy way to satisfy a sweet tooth!
